The Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (known as "SFP" or "we") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy applies to personal and other information collected when you use www.sustainablefish.org, www.fishsource.org, and any other SFP online site or service that links or refers to it (collectively, the "Services").

Information that we collect

Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership Foundation is a Data Controller.

We may collect personal information about our users in various ways. For example, we may collect information that you provide to us, information that we collect through your use of the Services, and information that we collect from publicly available sources or third parties.

• Information You Provide – When you register or otherwise interact with the Services, you may be invited to provide personal information to use our full range of Services. For example, during account registration, we may ask for information such as your name, email address, street address, job title and company, and related information.
  We also collect information that you provide to us when you participate in Metrics, send email or other communications to us, and submit images, photos, videos, or other content to the Services.
• Information About Your Use of the Services – In addition to the information you provide to us directly, we may collect information about your use of the Services. For example, we may collect:
  • Device Information — such as your hardware model, Internet Protocol address, other unique device identifiers, operating system version, browser type, browser language, and settings of the device you use to access the Services.
  • Usage Information — such as information about the Services you use, the time and duration of your use of the Services, whether certain links have been followed, and other information about your interaction with content offered through a Service, and any information stored in cookies and similar technologies that we have set on your device.   • Location Information — such as your computer’s Internet Protocol address, your mobile device’s GPS, Bluetooth, or WiFi signal or information about nearby WiFi access points, beacons and cell towers that may be transmitted to us when you use certain Services.
• Information from Third-Party Sources – We may receive information about you from publicly and commercially available sources, as permitted by law, which we may combine with other information we receive from or about you. For example, we may receive information about you from a social media site (e.g., Facebook or Twitter) if you connect to or from the Services through that site.
• Other Information We Collect – We also may collect other information about you, your device, or your use of the Services in ways that we describe to you at the point of collection or otherwise with your consent. You may be offered with a choice to not to provide us with certain types of information, but doing so may affect your ability to use the Services.

How we use information

We use information that we collect for the following purposes:

• To Provide and Manage the Services You Request — This includes, for example, processing your registration, sending you electronic newsletters, and enabling you to participate in the Services. It also includes providing customized content to you.
• To Contact You — We may periodically contact you with information about the Services, including in connection with your accounts, legal notices, publications, and other important information. When you send email or other communications to SFP, we may retain those communications in order to process your enquiries, respond to your requests, and improve our Services.
• To Better Understand Our Users and Improve Our Services — Based on the information we collect, we may conduct research, analysis, or an audit, to maintain, protect, and improve our Services and develop new services. We may also use your information to ensure the technical functioning of our network.
• To Protect the Rights of the Services and Others — We may use your information as we believe is necessary or appropriate to protect, enforce, or defend the legal rights, privacy, safety, or property of SFP, the Services, its employees or agents, or other users and to comply with applicable law.
• Consent — We may otherwise use your information with your consent or at your direction.

SFP processes information on our servers in the United States of America and in other countries. In some cases, we process information on a server outside your own country. By using the Services, you consent to the collection, international transfer, storage, and processing of your information as described herein.

Information sharing

The following provides information about entities with which we may share information. Our practices vary depending on the type of information.

• Affiliates — We may share information with our affiliates – companies that control, are controlled by, or are under common control with, SFP.
• Other Parties When Required by Law or as Necessary to Protect our Users and Services — We may share your information as we believe is necessary or appropriate to (a) comply with any applicable law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request; (b) enforce the applicable terms of use, including investigation of potential violations thereof; (c) detect, prevent, or otherwise address fraud, security, or technical issues; or (d) protect, enforce, or defend the legal rights, privacy, safety, or property of the Services, our employees or agents or users as required or permitted by law.
• Social Media Services — If you log into the Services with a social media service or if you connect a social media account with the Services, we may share your information with that social media service. The social media service’s use of the shared information will be governed by the social media service’s privacy policy and your social media account settings. If you do not want your information shared in this way, do not connect your social media service account with the Services.
• Other Parties in Connection With a Corporate Transaction — We reserve the right to transfer any information we have about you in the event that we sell or transfer all or a portion of our business or assets to a third party, such as in the event of a merger, acquisition, or asset transfer, or in connection with a bankruptcy reorganization.
• Otherwise With Your Consent or At Your Direction — In addition to the sharing described in this Privacy Policy, we may share information about you with third parties whenever you consent to or direct such sharing.
• Aggregated Data — We also may share with third parties certain pieces of aggregated, non-personal information, such as the number of users who accessed a particular fishery profile, for example, or the number of users who provided feedback. Such information is not intended to identify you individually.

Links to third-party sites

This Privacy Policy applies to our Services only. Our Services may link to third-party websites and services that are outside our control. We are not responsible for the security or privacy of any information collected by other websites or other services. You should exercise caution and review the privacy statements applicable to the third-party websites and services you use.

Information security

We have in place commercially reasonable security measures to protect the information we collect online. However, as effective as these measures may be, no security system is impenetrable. We cannot guarantee the security of systems where we store personal data, nor can we guarantee that the information you supply will not be intercepted while being transmitted to us over the Internet.

Accessing and updating personal information

When you use our Services, we make good faith efforts to provide you with access to your personal information and either to correct this data if it is inaccurate or to delete such data at your request if it is not otherwise required to be retained by law or for legitimate business purposes. We ask individual users to identify themselves and the information requested to be accessed, corrected or removed before processing such requests, and we may decline to process requests that are unreasonably repetitive or systematic, require disproportionate technical effort, jeopardize the privacy of others or would be extremely impractical (for instance, requests concerning information residing on backup tapes) or for which access is not otherwise required. In any case where we provide information access and correction, we perform this service free of charge, except if doing so would require a disproportionate effort.

Other important information

• Children’s Privacy — We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children under the age of 13 without parental consent, unless permitted by law. If we learn that a child under the age of 13 has provided us with personal information, we will delete it in accordance with applicable law.
• Your California Privacy Rights — California residents are entitled once a year, free of charge, to request and obtain certain information regarding our disclosure, if any, of certain categories of personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes in the preceding caldendar year. We do not share personal information with third parties for their own direct marketing purposes.
• Do-Not-Track Signals and Similar Mechanisms — We, along with third parties, may use other kinds of technologies, such as Local Shared Objects (also referred to as “Flash cookies”) and HTML5 local storage, in connection with our Services. These technologies are similar to the cookies discussed above in that they are stored on your device and can be used to store certain information about your activities and preferences. However, these technologies may make use of different parts of your device from standard cookies, and so you might not be able to control them using standard browser tools and settings. Information about disabling or deleting HTML5 or Flash cookies can be found on the Internet.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

Please note that this Privacy Policy may change from time to time. We will provide you with thirty (30) days’ written notice prior to implementing any material modification, as determined by SFP in its sole discretion. If you continue to use the Services after changes are posted you will be deemed to have accepted the changes.

We may use cookies and similar technologies to facilitate administration and navigation of the Services, to better understand and improve our Services, and to provide you with a customized online experience.

• Cookies — Cookies are small files that are placed on your computer when you visit a website.
